About us
We’re parents, we’re teachers, we’re educators… just like you. What started with a desire to give our children the best Christian education possible has transformed into a mission to prepare all children for life! Lux Classical is for every child for whatever calling God has for them. They will be prepared for the change that restores culture to Christ. Lux Classical Christian is founded on three pillars - God’s Word, Classical Education, and Parental Involvement.
Our mission is to reflect God's light by partnering with families to provide a classical Christian education that equips children spiritually, academically and socially.
Christian Focus
Our primary motivation is for children to know Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3). Christian discipleship is at the core of who we are, as our goal is to successfully raise up intellectually strong children with a heart for the Lord to be leaders inside and outside of the Christian community. Knowing catechisms and scriptures, memorizing many Proverbs and singing Psalms are all aspects of our daily schedule that we believe will prepare our children to have a ready answer for their faith, live skillfully in the Fear of the Lord and have hearts and minds trained to speak, rejoice, lament and praise in a manner pleasing to God (Psalms 119:11).
We believe all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16). We believe the sixty-six books of the Holy Bible are the only authoritative, inerrant Word of God, making these Scriptures our final rule in all matters of faith and practice.
Classical Education
The educational model we use is described as classical. The basis includes following the trivium, which consists of three time-tested phases of learning taught at specific grade-levels during a child’s development.
The Grammar Stage, K - 6th grade, is the phase that emphasizes teaching young children knowledge. At this stage, young children are naturally inquisitive and are willing and able to memorize lots of material. It’s at this age we help our children absorb tremendous amounts of information with historical and biblical timelines. Students are taught Latin – the Swiss Army Knife of languages – as a tool of leverage in mastering English. Other benefits include an ease of learning other modern languages. Teaching (and memorizing) math facts and basics ‘help establish necessary tools to be used forever!
The Logic Stage, , 7th - 9th grades, is the phase teaches teens ordered relationship and understanding. As children grow older, they become pert or argumentative. At the Logic Stage we teach them how to think and argue. We teach them ordered relationship – cause and effect. While they’re learning to reason, we also emphasize composition and writing.
The Rhetoric Stage, 9th - 12th grades, teaches young adults wisdom. Teaching a child (who is prone to argue) a better way to argue may seem dangerous. Thankfully, they grow out of that stage and move into the Rhetoric Stage, where they become more concerned about how they are perceived. At this stage, children are taught Rhetoric–how to communicate winsomely and effectively. This is the final stage of the Trivium. Here children bring the knowledge they learned at the Grammar and Logic Stages and learn how to solve difficult problems, become self-aware, and express what they actually think through speech, papers, or in groups.
The Trivium is the foundation of Classical Education.
Collaborative Model
At Lux, you will find a culture where family life is not radically divided between home and where your children learn. By design, parents are as much a part of Lux as the students are! We believe that parental involvement in a child’s education is a God-given mandate. Scripture shares: “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise” (Deut. 6:7 ESV). We believe that just because parent’s should be involved in their student’s education, they should not have to do it alone. Lux offers in-class instruction on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (8:30 AM to 3 PM), providing greater flexibility on Mondays and Fridays to finish assignments at home. Practically speaking, our collaborative model looks like this:
Lux Responsibility: Our team provides classroom instruction Tuesday-Thursday & assign home assignments for Fridays and Mondays.
Parent Responsibility: Parents work with their students on Fridays and Mondays, ensuring assignment completion and concept understanding.
Student Responsibility: Students complete home assignments, ready to progress with the curriculum in class weekly.
